Chain making was and is a tradition of the Black Country as can be seen by the chain on the banner. This chain has a double meaning. Firstly it shows the hand of the skilled craftsmen putting the finishing touches to the chain; secondly it depicts the strong faith of the working people and their link or bond with their religion, which gave them hope when there was often despair. You will also observe that the volume of the sacred law on this banner emanates light, which is further depicted by the bright yellow border around the banner, indicating that if one has faith in the almighty, there is always light and hope.
